Medical terminology | Biology homework help

  Hi dear,

Can you help me to finish this assignment with good quality and be on time please?

Please follow the instructor carefully. There are 2 Discussions, response to student discussion in a thoughtful manner, at least one paragraph each (minimum of 6-7 sentences per response in length).

Discussion # 1

One musculoskeletal injury that professional American football players are prone to are sprains, specifically lateral ankle sprains. Sprains are ligament injuries, happening most often at the subtalar and ankle joints. Lateral ankle sprains occur when the foot is plantarflexed and internally rotated while the subtalar joint is inverted. The anterior talofibular ligament, due to its low tissue strength, instability, and orientation, is most commonly injured in these sprains. American football players will be at risk due to factors surrounding the sport such as their size and speed, close player proximity, and rough contact happening frequently.

Another musculoskeletal injury that professional American football players are susceptible to are strains, specifically in the hamstrings, which include the biceps femoris, semimembranosus, and semitendinosus muscles. Strains are injuries to a muscle-tendon complex, and the hamstring is at high risk for injury. When wide receivers are running backs are sprinting at full speed, they enter a state of knee flexion with hip flexion where the hamstrings lengthen. As a result, the hamstrings decelerate the thigh and lower leg eccentrically, which increases sprain susceptibility. The high levels of intrinsic force allowed in the hamstrings due to their high ratio of fast-twitch muscle fibers are believed to be another contributing factor.

Discussion #2

One of the most commonly watched sports in the United States is American football. Football is a high contact and impact sport, consisting of running, kicking, throwing, and the action of tackling. Due to this, the percentage of athlete injury is 20-37% for professional football players and 18-23% for amateur players (Massida et al., 2015). The most common injuries in professional football are leg injuries.

Common leg injuries include ankle, quad, and hamstring sprains, torn ligaments (e.g. ACL, MCL, LCL), and knee injuries (UPMC Sports Medicine, 2021). With a contact sport such as football, the physical impact from tackles causes the body to move in unnatural directions. Aside from physical impact injuries, players can also injure themselves from excessive movement. Professional football players practice once or twice every day, along with participating in game events. Due to this, there are some cases where these athletes push their bodies farther than they can go (UPMC Sports Medicine, 2021). Majority of the time, this leads to soreness during the next few days. In some cases, however, the overexertion can lead to injuries such as those previously listed.

Overall, all contact sports increase the probability of musculoskeletal injury. Football is a high contact sport that overexerts the body in a number of ways. Although this is true, there are a number of preventative measures that football players can take in order to decrease the risk of injury. Some of these methods include proper stretching, strength activities, and endurance drills (UPMC Sports Medicine, 2021). With these preventative methods, professional football players can strengthen their bodies in order to perform at their highest physical potentials.
