Select an actual retailer (e.g., McDonald’s, Sears, Old Navy, etc) and prepare a 15-minute  recorded presentation of how the retailer does the site selection process and upload to Canvas

(For this assignment, all I will need is a powerpoint presentation or whatever is easy to create. I will do the actual recording)

Use whatever format you want to record as long as I can view it and submit the presentation to me via Canvas.  My suggestion has been use Yuja (https://usm.yuja.com/ (Links to an external site.)) and submit via Canvas,  Instructions can be found here https://www.usm.edu/online-learning/resources.php (Links to an external site.)   Recently, I started to do recordings with Power Point 365. In MGT 660, the students recorded their presentations and uploaded them to Vimeo and posted the link. Lots of ways to do it so pick what is easiest for your group.

1. About the retailer
2. Discuss the screening process
   1. What data analytics tools are used e.g., ESRI Business Analyst
3. Criteria the retailer uses to select a location
   1. How is market potential determined?
      1. Did they use Trade Capture area, Pull Factors, Reilly’s law or any of the calculations discussed in the readings? 
   2. Real estate requirements?
4.  Site economics of the retailer (e.g., expected sales, franchisee finances, etc.)
5. Any other relevant information 

Grading Rubric

1. Did the student select an actual retailer (e.g., McDonald’s, Sears, Old Navy, etc) and prepare a presentation on how the retailer does the site selection process.  
2. Was the site selection process clear and could given the correct data tools (e.g., Maptitude, SiteZeus ), the student could have replicated the retail site selection process?
3. About the retailer and where it is located.  Map of locations?   Did they include what states and regions have locations?
4. Was the screening process discussed in detail and with clear metrics?
5. Did the student identify the data tools (e.g., ARCGIS Business Analyst) and how the data tools are used?
6. Did the student identify the particular criteria broken down by customer (e.g. socio-economic, psycho-demographic) and location (e.g., AADT)  
7. Did the student identify how market demand was determined?
8. Was the student able to find if the retailer uses Trade Capture area, Pull Factors, Reilly’s law or any of the calculations discussed in the readings?  
9. Were specific Real estate requirements discussed? E.g. square footage at a minimum     
10. Were site economics discussed such as expectations for the franchise owners, expected sales, etc.
11. Extra points if actually talked to a retail owner as recommended
